The Weavers Year
Build confidence, skill and independence at the loom.
Do you have a loom at home and want to take your weaving further? Or are you thinking about buying a loom and would like the guidance to get started with confidence? This year-long course is designed to help you develop the technical knowledge, design skills and creative independence needed to weave at home.
Course overview
Running from September to July, this course offers a structured year of learning for weavers who want to deepen their practice. You will begin with a two-day introductory workshop to meet the group, discuss expectations for the year and explore the finer details of the course. From there, you will develop your own projects at home, returning to the studio at key points through the year to review progress, expand your skills and plan the next stage of your weaving.
What you will learn
Throughout the course, you will:
- Build confidence in designing and planning woven work.
- Learn how to dress a loom and prepare warps.
- Develop your understanding of yarns, weave structures and pattern reading.
- Explore notation and record-keeping for your woven samples.
- Create a personal library of samples to support future work.
- Progress from samples into larger, more ambitious projects.
- Receive feedback and guidance on your developing practice.
Course structure
The course is made up of studio sessions spread across the academic year, with time in between for independent weaving at home. Each studio day will focus on reviewing samples, discussing what has worked well, identifying any challenges and using that learning to plan a bigger project.
Between studio dates, there will also be catch-up sessions either in the studio or via FaceTime or Zoom, giving you the opportunity to talk through your progress and receive individual critique and support. You will also have access to a library of online videos to support you throughout the course.

Our Workshop Reviews...
Rebecca was such a great instructor, very friendly and took us through all we needed to know to learn to weave our own fabric. The class was very intimate with only 4 students and also very informative but relax. I loved every minute of learning to weave with Rebecca and can’t wait to do more weaving over time.
Laura Soothill - Table Loom
I have recently taken part in a two day intermediate weaving workshop and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have learnt so much and found Rebecca to be an excellent teacher.
Sue Daines - Whole Loom Set Up
We had a fabulous morning on the weaving workshop. Everything was well thought out and explained clearly so it was easy to get started, really delighted with what I created. Being able to taking the loom and materials home was wonderful. Highly recommended.
